MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1991-m1
INSPECTION DATE: A-4-20L19 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: 11F
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Ferris Pit, DRMS File# M-1991-073 operated by Kiowa County
Government. The site is located about 15 miles north of Haswell, Colorado in Cheyenne County. I, Jared Ebert
of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Rick Spady of Kiowa
County accompanied me on the inspection.
Overall, mining is complete at this site and it is in the reclamation phase. The pit slopes have been graded to a
3:1 horizontal to vertical ratio or flatter, and according to Mr. Spady, the topsoil and overburden have been
spread and the site was seeded about three years ago.
At the time of the inspection very few of the desired species of grass have begun to establish. The site was
primarily vegetated with Kochia weed, Wavyleaf thistle and possibly foxtail barley grass. The operator will
need to keep in mind that the site will not be released until the desired vegetation has been established at the
site.
Also, there was water observed in the pit and according to Mr. Spady, it is likely that the pit excavation is being
used as a stock water pond. This stock water pond is not included in the reclamation plan. This is cited as a
problem at the end of this report. Given that this feature will most likely remain on the site after the
reclamation permit is released, it will need to be included in the current reclamation plan through a Technical
Revision. For the Technical Revision, please submit the following material:
1.) A cover letter requesting for the stock water pond to be included in the current reclamation plan.
Within the letter, please describe the stock water pond.
2.) A notarized letter from the landowner stating that they approve leaving the stock water pond in
place.
3.) A new reclamation plan map that depicts the location of the stock water pond within the permit
area.
4.) Technical Revision fee of $216.00.
