0 The surface subsidence is not expected to significantly affect <br />soil resources since the surface has been previously mined. <br />Visual Resources <br />This alternative involves the extension of an existing <br />underground mine. No surface activity is planned. therefore no <br />impact to the visual resource would occur. <br />Cultural Resources <br />Since no cultural resources were identified during the inventory <br />of the lands, the only impacts anticipated would be buried. <br />subsurface resources. If operations did not cease in the <br />immediate area of a discovery, potentially significant adverse <br />impacts could occur. If operations in the immediate area did <br />cease upon discovery of buried subsurface resources, an <br />evaluation could be made and any significant resources and data <br />could be recovered. <br />Mit igat ion <br />1. If cultural resources are discovered during operations, the <br />lessee shall immediately notify the OSM Regional Director <br />or the BLM authorized officer. The lessee shall not <br />disturb such discoveries. Within five (S) working days, <br />the Regional Director (or authorized officer for the <br />appropriate surface management agency) will evaluate, or <br />cause to have evaluated. any cultural resources discovered <br />and will determine if any action may be required to protect <br />or preserve these discoveries. Cost of recover/mitigation <br />of these resources shall be borne by the lessee. <br />2. All cultural resources discovered shall remain under the <br />jurisdiction of the United States of America until <br />ownership is determined under applicable law. <br />Social <br />No communities would experience social impacts from this action. <br />Land Use <br />Since the subject lands currently do not support any <br />agricultural uses, no dwellings exist. and underground mining <br />will not occur near the existing right-of-way, no impacts would <br />occur. <br />Transportation <br />There would be no significant impacts to County Road 27 with an <br />extension of the existing underground mine.
