J. Dudash
Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Bowie Resources, LLC, Bowie No. 2 Mine
TR-62, Ventilation Fan, Adequacy Response No. 1
Permit C-1996-083
Dear Mr. Dudash:
CIVIL ENGINEERING
CONST. MANAGEMENT
RECEIVED
JUN 15 2009
Division or Neclamation,
Mining and Safety
The DRMS' letter dated May 20, 2009, transmitted its adequacy review for the
referenced technical revision. On behalf of Bowie Resources LLC, following are its
responses to the DRMS' comments and concerns.
1. DRMS - Attached is the reclamation cost estimate for TR-62. The estimate is
comprised of two tasks (a summary sheet and task 311) and represents an
increase in liability of $15,515.00. Please inform the Division in writing whether or
not BRL approves of the Division's reclamation cost estimate.
BRL- BRL accepts the reclamation estimate.
2. DRMS - In an e-mail dated May 15, 2009, the USDA-Forest Service requested
additional information concerning noise and noise abatement measures planned in
TR-62. The following is a list of the Forest Service's concerns. Please update
Section 2.05.6 concerning mitigation, as needed.
A. DRMS - Please discuss the anticipated level of noise that will be
generated from the fan and how BRL will mitigate the effects of fan noise
on wildlife and recreation uses in Hubbard Canyon.
BRL - The applicant purchased the Hubbard Creek Fan from Spendrup
Fan Co. Spendrup estimates the fan will produce a sound pressure level
of 97 dBA at a distance of 20 feet. Spendrup further estimates the sound
level can be reduced to about 82 dBA by installing an outlet silencer and
insulating the sides of the fan diffuser. The applicant will install both of
the sound mitigation measures.
