Man- Mine - 2006 Annual Hydrology Report
6.0 MINE AREA SURFACE WATER
March 2006
The sediment ponds (Stations 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, and 321) were monitored weekly from
March through June and monthly during the remaining months through September, 2005. Only
one outflow was observed during the year due to a below above average snow year and spring
stones. This discharge occurred at Station 305 (Pond E). No visible oil & grease was observed
in the outflow. Station 303 (Pond C) was reclaimed beginning August 14, 2006 so there are no
potential discharges after that time. There was some inflow from snowmelt in March but no
outflows. In 2006, all of the ponds filled at least partially during April and May and retained some
water through the summer. Samples were collected on one occasion and tested for Settleable
Solids. The field and laboratory measurements for the 2005-2006 water years are presented in
Table 10, Mine Area Surface Water Quality Data. The 2005-2006 average pH and flow data for
each discharging station are presented on Figure 6, Mine Area Surface Water Average pH vs.
Flow (2005-6). The recorded measurements and field observations are contained on the field
data logs in Appendix A, 2006 Field Data. The analytical data is presented in Appendix D.
Discharges at the mine over the previous 5 years have been very minimal. Last year (2005) saw
the greatest number of discharge events. There were no discharges at the mine for any pond in
water years 2001, 2002 and 2004. There were 2 one time discharges at 2 ponds and one pond
that discharged 4 times in 2003. Surtace water sites 300, 306, 322, and 327 were dropped from
monitoring as of January 1999 and Station 314 was eliminated from the monitoring program in
October 1999. No data was collected from any of these sites during the 2006 water year.
TABLE 10
MINE AREA SURFACE WATER QUALITY DATA 2005-2006
4/5/2005 4/11/2005 4/19/2005 6/8/2005 4/12/2006
STATION 301
Flow Rate cfs 0.488 0.085 NF NF NF
Field Tem nature ® 2 2
H -field s.u. 8.1 8.1
EC -field umhos/cm 100 200
Oil & Grease NONE NONE
Settleable Solids mWh <0.2

STATION 302
Flow Rate cfs NF NF NF NF NF

STATION 303
Flow Rate cfs NF NF NF NF NF

STATION 304
Flow Rate cfs 1.065 0.071 NF 0.101 NF
Field Tem nature ® 3.0 2.0 15.0
H -field s.u. 8.2 8.0 8.0
EC -field umhos/cm 200 100 100
Oil & Grease NONE NONE NONE
Settleable Solids mL/Clh <0.2 <0.2
File: 6371/2006/20066ydrology ipt Page 14
