EXHIBIT G
WATER INFORMATION
GUNNISON RIVER GRAVEL PITS
All five pits are located on a terrace above the west side of the Gunnison River. The sites
slope from west to east at less than five percent to the River. During the mining of the
pits, drainage from above the pit and those areas around the pits will drain into the
excavation. When mining is completed, five ponds will be created with surface areas
ranging in size from 3.6 to 8.5 acres. The surface elevation of the ponds will be four to
fifteen feet below the elevation of the present ground elevation. See Exhibit F.
Dewatering will be required to mine the gravel deposits in these pits. Ground water will
be pumped during the mining operation directly to the Gunnison River. A Colorado
Discharge Permit Certification under Discharge Associated with Sand and Gravel Mining
and Processing Operations will be applied for from the Colorado Department of Public
Health and Environment. The estimated flow of water during dewatering will be from
200 to 600 gallons per minute. Pumping volumes are affected by the River flows and the
amount of previously mined area being dewatered.
A Substitute Water Supply Plan will be filed with the Office of the State Engineer,
Division of Water Resources to present an assessment of water use and depletions
associated with the gravel mining operations and to provide replacement water to offset
potential out-of-priority depletions. A plan for augmentation will be filed with Water
Court three years prior to completion of the mining.
The estimated maximum daily water requirements are 31,000 gallons, which will be used
mainly for dust control on haul roads and the crusher. When in full production, annual
water requirements are estimated at 6 acre-feet.
The property owner of the mining parcels have water rights to 1.2 cfs in East Creek and
8.9 cfs in the Gunnison River, a portion of which can be uses for reclamation and dust
control. Potential out of priority depletions will be purchased from The Bureau of
Reclamation out of Blue Mesa Reservoir.
