CANYON SAND & GRAVEL
P.O. Box 4362
Pagosa Springs, CO 81157
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Rm. 213
Denver, CO 80203
Attention : Kate A. Pickford
Regarding Financial Warrantylhcrease
Revised Reclamation Plan ?- Permit No. M- 88- 057
June 1, 2009
- k-dt
RECRYND
JUN 0 8 2009
Divis*'n Or t;ecL?rnQtion,
? MiAkV and Safety
To whom it may concern:
Canyon Sand and Gravel has nearly completed the lake project created by the
gravel operation. We plan to be finished by November of this year. The reclamation has
been completed around the lake perimeter with all of the grass established on the dikes.
The interior shore/bank has been stabilized with rock. A landscape feature is added to
the northern most point creating a vertical tower that becomes a kiva set into the hill
that measures about 50 feet in diameter. Stone steps rise out of the water along side for
easy access to and from the water. This feature was not on the original plan. In the fall
of 2008 the lake reclamation passed inspection.
Canyon Sand and Gravel got a Limited Impact (110) Operation Reclamation
Amendment in the summer of 2003 which involved a swap of ?/2 acre that was originally
designated to stockpile materials on the northwest side of the lake to the ?/2 acre
adjacent to the pit shed and remaining excavation area soon to be the island. (See
photo)
In this 1/2 acre stockpile area, the topsoil was scraped off and an earthen dike was
formed at its north side for use in reclaiming that area to pasture. We want to keep this
area a graveled parking lot as it has been indispensable to the ranch for horse trailer
parking and turnaround, parking for fishing and event guests and visiting RVs. There is a
beautifully built rock platform for the primary crusher placement that will become a
recreational landscape feature when the crusher leaves. Some topsoil will be used
along the west and north edges of the parking lot where the original grass was left as a
border of the gravel.
There will be an island (or isthmus as it will be accessed by the current road into that
area) approximately 100 feet in diameter with a 1 to 3 slope naturalized with rocks from
our on site raw material in the same manner that the lake interior has been fortified.
There is a collection of rocks and boulders in the stockpile area that is saved for the
island's reclamation into a rock grotto xericscaped environment. The island will be
mounded to above the height of the lake's surrounding dikes by the track hoe that has
done all of our previous excavation and reclamation. At this time the rocks and boulders
saved for placement around the island will be strategically placed. There will be a few
scattered areas where topsoil from the saved soil in the stockpile area will be spread and
native grasses will be planted. The effect will be a naturalized rock hill with some
comfortable fishing spots around the perimeter and a horseshoe pit for recreation.
We request this revision to the original reclamation plans.
Sincerely,
pkl)?X
J. xfu?,-

(2..vber - Y.
