Herbaceous Productivitv
2005 Reclaimed Area Herbaceous Productivitv
The 2005 herbaceous production for the reclaimed area measured 71.09 grams/ !/2M 2 (1273.98
lbs/acre). DRMS requested information regarding animal-unit-months (AUMs) and duration of
grazing from the landowner, but was unable to get an accurate usage value. Thirty 2 M2 quadrat
samples were collected in 2005. Sample adequacy calculations using the adequacy formula
referenced in the Division's Guideline Rezardinz Selected Coal Mine Bond Release Issues, dated
April 18, 1995, determined that the minimum number of samples (Nm;n) needed to achieve sample
adequacy was 64. Sample adequacy was not achieved for 2005 productivity data; therefore, the
reverse null formula was used for success comparison.
2005 Reference Area Herbaceous Productivity
The reference area was fenced and had not been grazed in either 2005 or 2006. Reference area
herbaceous production for 2005 was 39.15 grams/ %2 M2 (698.30 lbs/acre). Fifteen '/2M 2 quadrat
samples were collected in the reference area in 2005. Sample adequacy was achieved for the 2005
reference area with thirteen samples.
2006 Reclaimed Area Herbaceous Productivitv
The 2006 herbaceous Production for the reclamation area measured 40.87 grams/ %2 M2 (728.97
lbs/acre). Thirty'/2 M quadrat samples were collected in 2006. Sample adequacy calculations using
the adequacy formula referenced in the Division's Guideline Regardinz Selected Coal Mine Bond
Release Issues, dated April 18, 1995, determined that the minimum number of samples (Nmi„)
needed to achieve sample adequacy was 13. Sample adequacy was achieved for the 2006
productivity data.
2006 Reference Area Herbaceous Productivitv
The reference area was fenced and had not been grazed in either 2005 or 2006. Reference area
herbaceous production in 2006 was 54.14 grams/ %2 M2 (962.78 lbs/acre). Fifteen %2 M2 quadrat
samples were collected in the reference area during 2006. Sample adequacy was achieved for the
2006 reference area with thirteen samples.
Herbaceous Productivity Conclusions
Pre-mining herbaceous ?roduction for the reference area, and the area to be disturbed by mining
measured 49.35 g/'/2 M (880 lbs/acre). The 2005 reclaimed area herbaceous production of 71.09
grams per %2 M2 (1273.98 lbs/acre) and 2006 reclaimed area herbaceous production of 40.87 grams
per %2 M2 (728.97 lbs/acre) average 55.98 grams per %2 M2 (1001.48 lbs/acre) of forage after
livestock grazing had occurred. The average herbaceous production on the grazed reclamation in
2005 and 2006 exceeds that measured on the reference area and the pre-mining area. The
productivity on the reclaimed area is deemed successful.
Grassy Gap TOJ 6/5/2009 13
