Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
RE: Bowie No. 2 Mine, Permit No. C-1996-083, Bowie Resources LLC
Minor Revision No. 102, Pond B Culvert and Pond Discharge Pipeline,
Request for Assistance
I am requesting your assistance in the calculation of the reclamation cost estimate for Minor
Revision No. 102 (MR-102) for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. This revision proposes to place a culvert
into a section of an approved ditch on the east side of pond B and, also, to construct a temporary
6 inch diameter plastic pipeline in order to divert pond discharge across disturbed land at coal
waste pile no. 3.
The culvert is a metal one that is 30 inches in diameter and about 120 feet long. The 6 inch
diameter plastic pipeline is about 800 feet long. Most of the pipeline will be in a trench. At some
time in the future, the pond discharge will be routed around the gob pile no. 3 area and the
pipeline will probably be buried in place so BRL did not include that in the cost estimate.
MR-102 was called complete on May 20, 2009. Therefore, the Division's decision is due
Monday, June 1. However, I will be in the field from June 1 through June 4. If I could get your
review memo back by Friday, May 29, I would greatly appreciate it. If you need more time,
please let me know on May 29 so that I can extend MR-102.
Attached is one complete copy of the MR-102 submittal. If you need any additional information,
please let me know. Thanks for your help.
Attachments
cc: Sandy Brown (without attachments)
c:/word2007/bowie2/mrI 02memo 1
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Duramao Active and Inactive Mines
