Cattany
PO Box 266 Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Monte Vista, CO 81144
Re: North Farm Road Gravel Pit, Permit M-1977-140, Technical Revision TR-3, Approval and Recalculated Bond
Amount.
Dear Mr. Mathias,
I have reviewed the adequacy responses you sent to this office, addressing my questions regarding the reclamation plan
revision. The responses adequately address those questions, and this office has approved technical revision TR-3, on
today's date.
The changes now approved under this revision necessitate that the bond amount be recalculated. Please see the
enclosed bond estimate packet. It is intended to omit all unneeded items, and retain all items still considered to be
required. Please review it and notify me promptly if you see errors or omissions.
In summary, this is what was included in this recalculation: your reclamation plan states that the office building and
shop building, and their exterior slabs, are to remain. The pond slopes are in their final configuration and have a slope
of 5:1. The pond slopes will not be topsoiled or seeded. The northern acre of the site (north of the office) is graded
and topsoil, but revegetation is not yet adequate. The concrete and steel structures in the processing and stockpiling
area will be demolished and disposed of, by onsite burial of all concrete, and hauling offsite of all steel (including old
equipment and debris from the south end). The six acres of processing and stockpiling area will then need ripping,
grading, topsoil replacement and seeding. I mobilized an excavator with hydraulic hammer, wheel loader, dozer and
revegetation equipment, from Monte Vista.
The existing bond is a corporate surety posted in the amount of $36,355. The enclosed packet of new recalculated
costs shows a revised total bond amount of $34,827, which is below your present bond. The existing bond is sufficient
and there is no bond increase associated with this permit revision.
Thank you for the quality and timeliness of the materials you provided. If you have any questions, please contact me
at the Division's Durango field office: 691 CR 233, Room A-2, Durango, CO 81301.
Sincerely,
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand junction Durango Active and Inactive Mines
