Airport Road, Building A, Suite 205
Longmont, CO 80503
Re: Additional Information for the Western Gravel Olathe Gravel Pit Substitute Water Supply
Plan.
Dear Mark and Angela:
Thank you for reviewing the Western Gravel Olathe Gravel Pit Substitute Water Supply Plan
(SWSP) and providing comments in your June 12, 2008 letter. Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
(WWE) has addressed your comments below:
1. As requested, Figure 3 has been updated to show the location of the FD Lateral and south
outlet ditch. The Ironstone Canal is label on the USGS Quadrangle base map in Figure 1.
The North Feeder Ditch is no longer part of the Olathe gravel mining plan. The pumped
water and the bypassed UVWUA water will be released from the south outlet ditch, as
shown in the attached updated Figure 3.
2. To avoid injury to downstream users, the Olathe Gravel Pit will be dewatered during the
entire call period. When the call is lifted* the dewatering will discontinue and the gravel
pit and void spaces surrounding the gravel pit will be allowed to refill with UVWUA
water and/or river water, without injury to downstream users. This method of refilling
the pit was recommended and approved by Bob Hereford, Assistant Division IV Engineer
and Wayne Schieldt, Division IV Engineer.
The accounting sheet has been updated and includes columns that show the exposed
water surface area and amount of aggregate material removed (see attached).
4. The lease agreement with the USBR for Blue Mesa Reservoir water is a 40-year lease
that can be adjusted as needed. A copy of the Lease Agreement has been drafted with the
USBR for 3.0 AF of water (to cover the non-irrigation season depletions). The Draft
Lease Agreement is attached; the lease will be finalized once the SWSP is finalized.
5. The expected exposed groundwater surface area after reclamation is equivalent to 13.4
acres, with an annual evaporative depletions equivalent to 39.4 AF/yr.
