0
3.0 FACILITY INFORMATION [40 CFR 112.7 (a)]
3.1 Sunday Mine
Description: The Sunday Mine is a uranium mine excavation facility with a mine entrance portal
and a main shop. The facility stores and uses petroleum in the form of engine lubricating oil,
hydraulic oil, and rock drill oil. The products are stored in aboveground storage tanks (ASTs),
and are used at the mine site as needed. The Site Location Map and a mine-specific Site Map are
included in Appendix A of this plan. The Site Map (Figure 2A) shows the location of oil
containers, buildings, and critical spill control structures.
Operation: The facility operates as a repair shop, and no excavation operations are occurring at
this time. The site is manned during regular work hours from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday
through Thursday. Occasionally the site is manned on Fridays also. Personnel at the facility
include maintenance personnel.
Bulk Storage: Sunday Mine has one rack that holds four 55 gallon drums of oil; and one
separate 55 gallon drum of used oil. All of the drums are located inside of the main shop.
Secondary containment units placed under drums are sized to provide containment for the entire
capacity of the largest single container and sufficient freeboard. The oil containing storage and
equipment are summarized in Table 3-1 below. All containers with capacity of 55 gallons or
more are included. 9
The non-SPCC-regulated storage at this location consists of two water tanks located
approximately 225 feet northwest of the portal, and approximately 275 southeast of the portal.
Equipment: This facility has no SPCC-regulated equipment. The non-SPCC regulated
equipment at this location consists of one electric air compressor.
Loading Operations: The drums are manually loaded or unloaded and monitored by visual
inspection. The facility manager or is/her designee supervises oil deliveries for all new
suppliers, and periodically observes deliveries for existing, approved suppliers.
Piping Systems: There are no sections of aboveground piping at this location.
Site Drainage: Surface drainage flows northwest to a series of temporary sediment traps on the
north side of the site, into the drainage ditch on the north side of the road, and discharges into a
tributary of Big Gypsum Creek, an intermittent creek located approximately 1 /2 mile north of the
mine workings area. Big Gypsum Creek ultimately discharges west to the Dolores River, which
ultimately discharges northwest to the Colorado River. The topographic lines on Figure 2A in
Appendix A depict the site flow pattern, and Figure 1 shows the regional topography.
0
Denison Mines (USA) Corp. 9 SPCC Plan
Sunday Mines December 2007
