•
Job #: 68838.64986.03.3.14 Calc By: N. Anton; M. Nelson
Client: Denison Mines CHK By: G. Hazen Date: 1/27/2009
Project: Hydrogeology Report Date: 2/3/2009 Calc #: 1
Detail: Water Balance Estimation of Percolation
temperature and precipitation compiled over the period of record (1962 through 2007) and for
the wettest year on record (1997). Results indicated by the modeling for the Topaz Mine
development rock pile are expected to conservatively represent all of the Sunday Mines Group
development rock piles, although geotechnical data for only two of the development rock piles
is available.
The estimate suggests that significant percolation through development rock piles at the Sunday
Mines Group is unlikely based on the water balance model approach. The major factors that limit
percolation through the piles are precipitation and evaporation. As indicated by the climate data,
the area of the Sunday Mines Group is characterized as and (i.e., low precipitation). As a result
of the low precipitation and generally mild to hot temperatures, the rate of evaporation is
greater than the rate of precipitation for most of the year (based on the approach to estimate
potential evaporation prescribed by Subramanya 1994), resulting in an estimate of zero water
percolation through the development rock piles.
9

MathCAD V14 Saved 2/17/20095:15 PM
N:\64986-Denison Mines\Task Order 3 - DMO
Page 9
