Corrective Actions Ravenkamp Pit Number 1
M-1991-060
On May 14, 2009 Lincoln County Road and Bridge forces replaced two missing
Boundary markers at the Ravenkamp Pit. These were the southwest and northwest
markers. The markers on the east side of the pit were still in place. Included are
photographs of the four boundary markers. The northeast marker is located north of a
fence the landowners installed that allows livestock access to the two stock ponds while
keeping the livestock out of the working pit area.
Seeding of the overburden and topsoil piles was done on May 19 and 20. Included is an
email from Brian Johnson of the N.R.C.S. that recommends the seed to use for this
temporary erosion control measure. The photographs enclosed show the seeding of the
reclaimed slopes. The Road and Bridge foreman forgot to take pictures of the hand
seeding of the steeper slopes on the stockpiles; this hand seeding took place after the
mechanical seeding was done.
Lincoln County started reclamation of a portion of the south side of this pit the week of
May 11 and work continues the week of the 180'. The reclamation of this portion of the
pit will use the majority of the overburden stockpiles and some of the older topsoil
stockpiles. Seeding of the reclaimed portion of the pit will use a temporary mix until this
fall when the required native grasses will be seeded. A reinspection of the pit may be
warranted when all the work being done is nearing completion.
I have also enclosed a revised map of the Ravenkamp Pit as it appeared on May 20, 2009.
