16.0 Plant Growth Media and Revegetation <br />. The Sunday Mines are existing facilities with new improvements consisting mainly of <br />approved expansions of development rock piles as mining progresses, ventilation <br />systems, and exploration drilling for mine development. Soils information is provided <br />in Exhibit I of each of the individual permits for the Sunday Mines, and is included in <br />this document by reference. <br />Following mining, development rock will be contoured to the hillside and covered <br />with as much topsoil and inert material as available as outlined in Denison 's existing <br />110 and 112 permits to which this addendum will be an amendment. Slopes of 2.5 <br />horizontal (H):1 vertical (V) or less steep will be ripped on the contour of the <br />reestablished post-mine topography to a depth of 12 to 18 inches using a tracked <br />dozer. All low-grade and flat terrain will be ripped to aid in water infiltration and <br />retention of natural precipitation (rain and snow accumulation), and to deter soil loss <br />due to wind erosion. The re-contoured and graded surface facilities, development <br />rock area, portal face, roads, and vent hole pads will be ripped in preparation for <br />revegetation. <br />Following replacement of topsoil, where available, the surface of the soil will be <br />roughened by "ripping" the soil. A roughened soil surface exhibits lower soil loss <br />potential, increased moisture retention, cooler surface soil temperatures, and greater <br />seed germination. The development rock will be graded along the contour and <br />reseeded with approved seed mixes, then monitored until natural vegetation is re- <br />established to an extent acceptable to the Division and the BLM. <br />All ore stored on the surface is temporary and is moved to the White Mesa Mill on a <br />daily to weekly basis. At the time of reclamation, all ore will either be shipped to the <br />Mill, or placed in inert (dry) areas underground. No low or high grade ore bearing <br />material will remain on the surface following reclamation. <br />The surface water diversion ditches to the south and upgradient of the surface facility <br />areas will remain in place following reclamation. These permanent diversion channels <br />will be left to minimize the amount of runoff flowing down the slopes of the <br />reclaimed development rock areas to minimize erosion and sediment runoff. In <br />addition to sediment control BMPs, the development rock area will also be ripped and <br />seeded for revegetation. Denison will monitor the sites semi-annually to verify that <br />reclamation efforts are effective and will maintain the site for sediment and erosion <br />protection for the life of the operation. <br />Additional information regarding reclamation is included in the existing mine <br />permits, which were approved previously by the Board.
