Page 6 May 5, 2009
waste dump which has encroached on and eroded into Lumsden Creek. The Lumsden Creek DN
sampling site is located in Lumsden Creek approximately 100 ft downstream of the Dutchman Mine
dump (Photograph 6, Attachment A). The Lumsden Creek UP sample is located approximately 50 ft
upstream of County Road 5/10 (Photograph 7, Attachment A). During the December 4 field sampling,
flow was partially measured at both the Lumsden Creek UP and Lumsden Creek DN sites using a
container vs. time method. A large portion of flow was captured at each site, but the total flow was then
estimated at a higher rate based on the portion of flow that could not be captured during the
measurement. Turbidity was not directly measured but considered low at both locations based on visual
observations.
The Lumsden Creek Mouth sample site was located in Lumsden Creek approximately 3.2 miles
downstream of the Dutchman Mine waste dump location. This sample site was selected because it had
been described as "Lumsden Canyon Spring" and sampled in the past by the U.S. Bureau of Land
Management (BLM) and EFR. Flow during the sampling event was low - likely less than 1 gpm, and
due to the stream geometry, it could not be measured (Photograph 8, Attachment A). Refer to the
Lumsden Canyon reconnaissance discussion above for other hydrological observations.
Field sampling forms are presented in Attachment B. The field parameters collected for each sample
location are summarized in Table 1.
Table 1. Data collected on 7/29/08; The pH of the sump
may have been elevated due to the recent shotcreting of the sump drift. 4Actual mg/L value not recorded. Percent
was 51.9 %; DO in mg/L was estimated on basis of plot of DO % versus mg/L for data collected on June 19, 2008.
5 Total flow was estimated by measuring flow with a container vs. time and adding estimated flow not captured by
container.
Weans032709.doc
