(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1977-062
INSPECTION DATE: 5/13/2009 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS THM
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The Hallenbeck Pit is located immediately adjacent to J 50 Road approximately2
miles northwest of Austin, Colorado. The Hallenbeck pit is a 23.6 acre, I I2c surface operation. Edward Benson of
Benson Brothers accompanied the inspector during the inspection.
The mine identification sign and the affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with rule 3.1.12.
The sign is located at the main entrance on the southeast side of the gravel mine. The permit boundaries are
comprised of posts that are easily identifiable around the entire perimeter of the mine.
The site is currently mined out and is in various stages of final reclamation. The site is used as a central location for
the Benson Brothers office and shop. Various pieces of processing equipment and stockpiles of material were
observed during the inspection. The mine site is also used for storage of equipment that is for sale by the Benson
Brothers. The conditions observed during the inspection were consistent with the approved post mine land use,
which is industrial/commercial.
The reclamation completed at the site during the inspection consisted of regarded slopes that were generally no
steeper than the required 3H:1 V, regarded flat area and the south facing slope along the southern border of the
permit area. All reclamation completed to this point is consistent to what is required in the approved reclamation
plan except for the grading that still needs to be completed near the center and north end of the permit area. The
"critical" revegetative area along the southern border of the permit area has had moderate to good revegetative
success. The pocking that was completed prior to seeding has created a stable slope and a good seedbed within the
bottom of the pocks. Crested Wheatgrass, Four wing Saltbush and Russian Wildrye were observed on the south
facing slope and appeared to be successful.
No offsite damage or erosion was observed during the inspection.
Weeds were observed during the inspection but none appeared to be noxious.
In an effort to ensure the financial warranty remains adequate to reclaim this site per the requirements of the
approved reclamation plan, DRMS will update the reclamation cost estimate. The estimate will be forwarded to the
operator under separate cover.
No problems or possible violations were noted during the inspection.
Photos that show the conditions observed during the May 13, 2009 inspection are included at the end of this report.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Travis Marshall at the Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone
no. 970-241-2042.
