Peabody
Twentymile Coal Company
29515 Routt County Road #27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
970.879.3800
May 13, 2009
Mrs. Janet Binns
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203.-
(303) 866-3567 X 8107
9
0011
RE: Twentymile Coal Company - Foidel Creek Mine (Permit No. C-82-056), Minor Revision
(MR09-237) for New Discharge Pipeline & Headgate at Fish Creek Borehole Treatment Pond, and
New Drainage Culvert on Pond B Access Road.
Dear Mrs. Binns:
Twentymile Coal Company (TCC) requests CDRMS approval of a Minor Revision (MR09-237) to the
approved Permit, for installation of new discharge pipeline and headgate at the Fish Creek Borehole
(FCBH) treatment pond that controls discharge through CDRMS site 115 to Fish Creek. This pipeline
would replace an existing discharge pipeline that appears to be subject to clogging. Construction is
anticipated to take place during the upcoming Longwall move in May, during which period water from
the treatment pond is not required underground. Thus TCC will drain the pond to allow construction.
The pipeline will consist of a 12" PVC sewer line extending approximately 50 from the treatment pond to
the 115 drainage channel.
TCC also requests approval for the installation of an 18" culvert, extending from a drainage sump
constructed along bottom of the Pond B access road, to an existing collection basin located immediately
south of the access road. The Pond B access road had been an on-going concern during wet periods where
runoff erosion could discharge fines into a vegetative area along Foidel Creek. A soil berm located
between the access road and Foidel Creek will prevent future discharge into the creek. A sump and
culvert located at the base of the road will direct runoff into the existing collection basin that eventually
drains to Pond B.
The proposed FCBH pipeline and Pond B sump and culvert are shown on Map 24 (sheet 3 of 3, and 1 of
3, respectively). All other minor revision documents are enclosed.
G:\Environmental\REVISION\MINOR-RV\MR09-237 FCBH Discharge & Pond B Culvert\MR09-237 FCBH Discharge &
Pond B Road Culvert TL.doc\FCBH Discharge Line & Pond B access road culvert CL.doc
