In general: native
material to be used for embankment fill should:
• Be free from frozen or deleterious material
• Be placed in loose lifts not exceeding 12 inches
Be compacted to 95 percent of a standard proctor (ASTM-D698) within plus or minus 2 percent
of optimum moisture content
The filter diaphragm should be placed in loose lifts not exceeding 12 inches, and compacted to a
minimum of 70 percent of the relative density as determined by ASTM D 4254. Effort should be made to
avoid segregation of the filter material and to avoid its contamination with embankment fill.
Twentytmile Coal Company 18L Shaft Pad 7 Water & Earth Technologies, Inc.
Drainage and Sediment Control System Design March 2, 2009
