state Rea.
it in 12 inch layers impossible, the embarilanent will be •
constructed in uniform layers not exceeding in thickner~s the
a~*-~Yi~te average size of the rock used, but the layers will
not exceed 36 inches. Rock will be distributed by blading or
dozing in a manner that will ensure proper placement in the
enbanlanent, so that voids, pockets and bridging will be
reduced to a minimm,. The final layer will meet the
regni*~r~ts of 4.03.1(3) (d) (v) .
4.03.1(3) Each layer of the embarilanent will be completed, leveled and
(d)(vii) cong~acted before the succeeding layer is placed. Successive
layers will be cot[g~acted evenly by routing dozers, trucks and
scrapers over the entire width of the etnbanlanent. -This
procedure will be continued until no visible horizontal
movement of the pmhanlrnw+++ material is apparent. FSnhankmPnt
layers will be cmty~acted as r~ssaiy by a cheeps foot roller
to ensure that the embanlanent is adequate to support the •
anticipated volume of traffic and weight and speed of vehicles
to be used. Structural and foundation analysis will be
performed as needed to establish design ~*a*+~a~s for
Pmbarilanent stability appropriate to the site. ~ipaction will
be deta.-minx7 on a site by site basis by the Mine Fhgineer;
however, in no case shall amipaction be less than 90 percent
of GhaTrlarr3 Proctor.
4.03.1(3) Material will be placed in an elnbanlanent only when its
(d)(viii) moisture content is within acceptable levels to achieve design
compaction.
4.03.1(3) F]nYunknwnt slopes will not be steeper than lv:2h, except where
(d)(ix) embankment material is a miniimm, g5 percent rock, slopes will
not be steeper than 1v:1.35h unless it has been demonstrated
to the Division that embankment stability will result. The •
miniimim safety factor for all embarilanents will be 1.25.
12-28 Revised 07/15/88
