Thomas Jody Coughlin
12420 Brighton Road
Brighton, Colorado
May 18, 2009
David Bird, Senior Geochemist
State of Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Bird,
Please accept this letter as a formal complaint about the high water
table levels at my home which is located in Brighton. I am a member
of the Zigan Homeowners Association (ZHA) and am extremely
concerned that tests are showing that water level is one inch below
my foundation.
Many little water courses run under and around my house and I've
had to pump cement under my porch as a result of the erosion. It
should be noted that of all the ZHA homes, my home is the farthest
from the lake- this should not be happening!
My hope is that you can make the sand and gravel miners responsible
and take steps with them to develop a plan to save the properties that
the families in this area have worked so hard to build. I thought that
the mining companies had to get permission from the Army Corps of
Engineers to alter or in any way cause an effect to the Platte River.
Since the local mining operations are restricting the natural ground
water flow to the river, I would hope that someone can get involved to
rectify this situation!
Thank you, in advance, for your time and any assistance you can
provide.
Sincerely,
Thomas Jody Coughlin
All mail correspondence to:
P 0 Box 377
Henderson, CO 80640
