2008 Edna Mine Vegetation Sampling Report
0 2. West Ridge & Moffat Non-Topsoiled BRU
The Moffat/West Ridge Non-topsoiled BRU encompasses approximately 690 acres. Sample
adequacy for vegetation cover was obtained in this unit with 30 transects (Table 3-1). Mean
vegetation cover of acceptable plant species was 44.3%. The t-test utilized by Colorado DRMS
requires that the reclamation mean is at least 90% of the technical standard. For this unit, the
technical standard for vegetation cover is 47%, and 90% of this standard is 42.3%. The t-test
indicates the mean of the reclamation (44.3%) meets or exceeds the standard for vegetation
cover (Table 3-2).
2.1. Supporting Documentation
Vegetation population statistics for the Moffat/West Ridge Non-topsoiled BRU are provided in
Table 3-1. Vegetation cover t-test for the Moffat/West Ridge Non-topsoiled BRU is provided in
Table 3-2. Vegetation transect data is provided in Table 3-3. Please note that noxious weed
species point intercepts have been removed from the transect data, so some of the total cover
values are less than 100% in this table. A typical view of the West Ridge Non-Topsoiled BRU is
provided in Figure 3-1; a typical view of the Moffat Non-Topsoiled BRU is provided in Figure 3-2.
Vegetation transect sample locations for the Moffat/West Ridge Non-topsoiled BRU are
provided in Figure 2-3 and Figure 3-4.
3. Summary
This report contains vegetation monitoring information that demonstrates vegetation in the West
Ridge/Moffat Non-topsoiled BRU at The Pittsburg and Midway Coal Mining Company's Edna
Mine exceeds the standards established in the mine reclamation plan for this area (47% total
vegetation cover). All final bond release performance standards for vegetation parameters have
been satisfied by vegetation in the Moffat/West Ridge Non-Topsoiled BRU.

Habitat Management, Inc. 2 December 12, 2008
