ORIGINAL - PUBLIC FILE
(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1986-025
INSPECTION DATE: A_rinin2 INSPECTORS INITIALS: _ RK
OBSERVATIONS
The Division conducted a monitoring inspection of the site as part of sites to be
inspected during the fiscal years 208-2009.
The site is a small 110 construction materials located approximately 3 miles North East of
Calhan Colorado. Present during the inspection was Mr. Greg Newline of R.E MONK
construction.
Site was not active at the time of the inspection but evidence of recent mining activity
was observed. Mining is from west to east with top soil stockpiled along the South side.
Mr. Newline was notified that if the top soil is not going to be utilized within 180 days
to conduct concurrent reclamation, it should be stabilized utilizing native seeds. Given
the area being well known for prevailing high winds, the operator agreed to stabilize the
top soil if not used into reclaim the areas exhausted of mining.
Approximately 3 acres appeared to have been affected, including the top soil storage area.
The total permitted acres is 9.5 of which 9.0 acres can be affected, with 5 acres maximum
to be affected at any given time.
A small amount of processed stockpiled material was noted along the south East side of the
main pit area. According to Mr. Newline the sub contractor who is mining the site only
removes material on as need basis and does not expect the pit size to grow. However if
mining plan changes and demand grows, operator will have to notify the Division so the
warranty can be adjusted accordingly. Operator is also encouraged to conduct concurrent
reclamation.
Currently the Division is holding a warranty in the Amount of $11,500.00, which appears to
be adequate. Permit sign and boundary markers properly posted.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: MR GREG NEWLIN
OPERATOR: R.E MONKS CONSTRUCTION
ADDRESS P.O.BOX 25579
CITY/STATE/ZIP: CC)I ORADO SPRINGS CC) 80936
cc: IF CE JOHN AMES/FOREST S
F HW
F HMWMD (CH)
F
F SE
F WQCD (CH)
F OTHER
F BL
F FS,
