STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
COLORADO
D I V I S ION OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
DATE: February 1, 2008
c i Bill Ritter, Jr.
Governor
TO: Dan Mathews Harris D. Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
FROM: Joe Dudash Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
RE: Bowie No. 1 ermit No. C-1981-038, Bowie Resources LLC
Technical Revision No. 48, Reclamation Plan Revisions, Request for
Assistance
I am requesting your assistance in the adequacy review of Technical Revision No. 48 (TR-48),
submitted by Bowie Resources LLC (BRL) for the Bowie No. I Mine.
In Technical Revision No. 48, Bowie Resources LLC (BRL) is proposing to revise three items in
the approved reclamation plan for the Bowie No. I Mine. First, BRL wants to delete permit
application text that refers to the use of rocks from the rock slope project as cover material for
reclamation, since the rock slopes were never constructed. Second, BRL is proposing to change
the permit application text to allow for the surface roughening of reclamation slopes. Finally,
BRL would like to change the fertilization plan so that fertilizers would not be used in most cases.
As a note, in comparing the proposed revised pages with the currently approved permit
application pages, it appears that some sentences have been changed or deleted that may relate to
matters not directly described in the TR-48 cover letter. Approved permit application pages can
be found in Laserfiche at Section/Exhibition Name: 2.05 Operation and Reclamation Plans Part
2 for permit number C1981038.
Also, please be aware that there appear to be discrepancies in wording on permit application
pages 66 and 67 of Section 2.05, as well as with a rule citation on permit application page 68 of
Section 2.05, which I am researching.
I gave you one copy of the TR-48 submittal on January 30, 2008. If you need any additional
information or have any questions, please let me know.
The adequacy review letter is due Monday, March 3, 2008. I would appreciate it if I could get
your adequacy review memo back by Thursday, February 28, 2008. Thanks for your assistance!
cc: Sandy Brown
c:/word/bowie 1 /tr48memo 1
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction, • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
