event, a temporary fence will be installed around the work perimeter and the existing fence will
be restored at the end of the project.
Other equipment and temporary facilities, which likely will be necessary at the site, may include:
• Office Trailer(s)
• Portable Toilets(s)
• Cargo containers to secure tools and equipment
• Diesel powered generator set and electrical switchgear
• Skid-mounted fans on surface, with ducting to connect to existing duct works inside the
shaft
• Diesel powered air compressor
* Skid mounted fuel tank (double wall, with lined containment area)
• Mobile crane
• Water tank
• Trash container
* Scrap metal container
• Front end loader, backhoe, grader, dozer as needed for earthwork and/or material
handling
• Personal light-duty vehicles
Within the shaft, MES will evaluate the existing liner, piping, ducting, shaft guides, escape
ladders and other in-shaft equipment for usability, and repair or replace these as necessary.
Each mining sub-level to be accessed will also be evaluated for safety by MES personnel, who
will implement any necessary corrective measures before the inception of geologic research
activity at that level. It is anticipated that these measures may include:
• Scaling of loose slabs from roof and ribs;
• Installation of additional rock bolts, if needed;
• Closing hazard areas with construction fencing and appropriate signage;
• Implementing ventilation controls, including drift fans, ventilation bag, brattice curtains,
temporary stoppings, regulators, and other equipment as needed to clear methane from
the levels and provide fresh outside air to areas of the mine that will be accessed.
General Environmental Protection measures
Liners will be placed under stationary diesel equipment to contain any oil, lubricant, or fuel
drips. Refueling or oiling of mobile construction equipment will be performed with a temporary
liner laid out between the equipment and the fuel or lubricant supply tank. Unattended refueling
will not be permitted. Any soil affected by a fuel or hydraulic oil leak will be excavated and
removed to a legal offsite disposal facility. A spill containment and collection kit will be present
at all times.
Prior to mobilization to the site, ground-engaging equipment will be pressure washed to remove
any remaining earthen material, which could contain weed seeds.
