Enclosed is a check for $257 for the SWSP renewal
request fee. Because mining is expected to conclude in September 2008, we request that the plan
be extended through January 2010, which is when all of the lagged depletions from mining will
have impacted the South Platte River. If the liner is not repaired and approved by May 31, 2008,
another request to renew the SWSP will be submitted.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Sand and Gravel Mine is located in Section 35, Township 1 South, Range 67 West,
Sixth P.M. (Water Division 1, District 2); the mine is west of Highway 85, west of the Fulton
Ditch, and north of 120`h Avenue in Adams County. An aerial photo of the site is included as
Figure 1.
The Sand and Gravel Mine operation will recover approximately two million cubic yards
of sand and gravel resources over a five-year period (that began in September of 2004) from a
mining area of 38.3 acres. The mining plan includes a slurry wall around the perimeter of the
site, and a rinse water lagoon and dewatering pond contained within the slurry wall with a
combined exposed water surface of 2 acres. Additional consumptive uses include moisture
retained in the sand and gravel product removed from the site prior to the slurry wall liner
approval. The mining operations are anticipated to conclude in September 2008.
