(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1978-143
INSPECTION DATE 04/14/09 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS PSH
OBSERVATIONS
The Kremmling Airport, File No. M-1978-143, was inspected by Peter Hays with the Division
of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) as part of the Division's 4-year monitoring
inspection program. Mr. Bill Underbrink with Grand County Department of Road and Bridge
was present during the inspection.
The Kremmling Airport Pit is located on the south side of the Kremmling Airport southeast
of Kremmling, Colorado.
The Kremmling Airport 110c to 112c construction material reclamation permit conversion
(CN-01) was approved by the Division on September 9, 1993. The Division approved an
amendment (AM-01) to expand the pit 11.60 acres and revise the reclamation plan on July
31, 2008. The total permitted area is 32.91 acres.
The annual reports submitted by Grand County Department of Road and Bridge indicate the
pit has been inactive since 2006. During the inspection, the amended area was being mined
by Grand County. Mr. Underbrink stated mining activities started last week and is
schedule to continue for another week. Approximately 2 acres of disturbed was noted
during the inspection.
The western part of the amendment area is being mined to the final floor grade to allow
for stockpile storage and room for the processing plant. The final northern slope is
approved at 2:1, however due to the mining method and size of the workable area the
resulting slope will be 3:1. The mined material was being temporarily stockpiled to the
east until the processing plant can be installed. A twenty (20) foot highwall will be
completed from the southern boundary to the northern mined slope. The highwall will move
from west to east as mining activities continue.
Topsoil moved from the 21.31 acre western portion of the permit area is stockpiled along
the northern boundary of the pit adjacent to the airport fence. The required 25' offset
from the airport fence was observed.
The approved post-mining land use is industrial/commercial. A wood pellet plant was
observed on the original 21.31 acre permit area. The Division recommends Grand County
submit a partial release request to remove the original permit area from the reclamation
permit.
The site was well organized and maintained by Grand County Department of Road and Bridge.
An entrance sign was posted and permit boundary markers were observed as required by Rule
3.1.12. No problems were noted during the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
? CE
NAME Ken E. Haynes ? BL;
OPERATOR Grand County Department of Road and Bridge ? FS
STREET P.O.
