STAT OF COLORADO`
Bill Ritter, Jr., Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DIVISION OF WILDLIFE
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
Thomas E. Cunningham
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203-
A)
Re: Tim Kunau, Kunau Site, Permit No. M-2008-025
Dear Mr. Cunningham:
The Division of Wildlife is familiar with the site and has the following comments to provide regarding the request
for comments on Kunau Site, reclamation permit application, located at or near Section 22, Township 13S, Range
61 W, 66 Prime Meridian, in El Paso County. Based both on the location and type of action being proposed the
Division believes impacts to the wildlife resource to be negligible.
The local vegetation community overall is considered rangeland-grass. It is important during reclamation of the
site that native vegetation be replaced to its current state. For more specific information on native vegetation,
consult the local NRCS office. Without adequate reclamation, the site could experience erosion problems,
especially during drought conditions. Reclamation with native drought tolerant species becomes even more
important to reduceerosion.
The Division of Wildlife requests that the overburden top soil be stock piled for use during the reclamation
process. An effort should be made to treat for any noxious weeds that may invade the disturbed site.
Thank you for the opportunity to commen on this reclamation permit application. If you have any questions or
require additional information, please contact District Wildlife Manager Jeromy Huntington at 719-227-5283 or
via e-mail at ipKgmy.huntinVXp@state.co.us.
Sincerely,
Shaun Deeney
Area Wildlife Manager
xc: File
SE Regional Office
Jeromy Huntington, DWM
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Harris D.
