Level III Ecoregion: Colorado Plateaus <br />3. Level IV Ecoregion: Semiarid Benchlands and Canyonlands <br />4. Physiographic Features: Benches, mesas, cuestas, alluvial fans, hillslopes, cliffs, arches, and <br />canyons. A few isolated peaks. Areas of low relief alternate with areas of high relief. <br />5. Typical Geology: Quaternary alluvium and colluvium. Tertiary and Cretaceous siltstone, <br />sandstone, claystone, oil shale, and marlstone. In deep canyons and cliffs: areas of Permian <br />siltstone, sandstone, and shale, and Pre-Pennsylvanian Paleozoic shale, limestone, and sandstone. <br />6. Elevation: 5400 to 9200 feet (Site is approximately 6800) <br />7. Local relief. 100 to 1000 feet (Site has approximately 200 before mining) <br />8. Natural Vegetation: Pinyon juniper woodland, Gambel oak woodland, and sagebrush steppe with <br />black sagebrush, winterfat, Mormon tea, fourwing saltbush, shadscale, galleta grass, and blue <br />grama. Previous reports indicated vegetation is predominantly Pinon and Juniper trees. There <br />is also Western Wheatgrass, Cheatgrass, Indian Rice grass, Squirrel Tail, Snowberry, <br />Mountain Mahoghany and Sand Dropseed. <br />9. Land use and land cover: Woodland and shrubland. Rangeland, recreation, coal mining, oil and <br />gas production. Oil shale extraction. <br />10. SEED MIX FOR RECLAMATION: <br />a. There are currently several reclamation seed mixes approved for the existing site. <br />b. As recommended by District Conservationist for the original 14.8 acres (non-Irrigated <br />grazing land : <br />Species Variety # PLS Percentage # PLS/ Acre <br />Pubescent Wheat grass Luna 18 50% 9.00 <br />Streambank Wheat grass 11 30% 3.25 <br />Western wheat grass 16 20% 3.25 <br />TOTAL 15.50 <br />c. Assuming seed will be drilled. If seed is broadcast, quantities per acre will be doubled. <br />d. Seed will be protected by crimped clean, weed-free straw mulch (2 tons per acre) or <br />pinned aspen excelsior (95 percent coverage). <br />e. This seed mix will be revised annually as required by US Bureau of Land Management <br />for all US Government land, in the vicinity, and DRMS will be notified (either in <br />advance or with annual report) of changes required by BLM. <br />0 <br />11. Instructions for seeding: <br />• Cover seed 1/4" to 1/2" deep using a harrow, drag bar or chain. <br />• Seeding should be done between September 1 and December 1 to take advantage <br />of late summer and fall precipitation. <br />• Distribute any stockpiled trees and shrubs evenly over the disturbed area. <br />12.
