III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety(Division). This mine is in permanent cessation and
reclamation of most areas is complete. Ground conditions on this day were generally dry
with a few areas of mud or standing water. The weather on this day was clear and mild.
Roads
The road from the gate to the Refuse Disposal Area has held up well over the winter and
early spring. Surfacing is good in most places and the water bars established across the
road surface appear to be functioning as designed.
Hydrologic Balance
Pond 4 and pond 5 were both found dry. The site has received rain and snowfall since the
last inspection but it appears that the precipitation came slowly and resulted in no significant
runoff.
Revegetation
The growing season has begun in all reclaimed areas with the arrival of much needed
moisture. Grasses and forbs are sprouting with warming temperatures. No sign of current
year knapweed growth could be found in the problem area near the parking area.
