The settlement ponds will be approximately one acre in size, with 31-1: 1 V side slopes.
The overburden removed from the pond area will be stockpiled around the pond
perimeter.
Earthmoving for the sand and gravel mining operations will consist of excavating
the overburden soils, mining the sand and gravel, and backfilling the excavated
areas using overburden soil and imported site materials. The typical sequence of
operations is discussed in part (a) above.
(c) All water diversion and impoundment's
The project site is currently hydraulically isolated from up gradient and adjacent
property surface flows. Storm water currently drains toward the existing
abandoned sewer ponds. Flows surrounding the site are conveyed to the 33 Road
Ditch located west of the site. From there storm water is conveyed southwest to the
Colorado River.
During the mining and reclamation process, all precipitation within the project site
will be collected and remain on the project site. A drainage swale will be installed
along the west boundary line, which will collect and divert surface flows into
settlement ponds located at the southwest corner of each of the respective mining
areas. Drainage characteristics will not be changed affecting the site or adjacent
sites.
Mining for sand and gravel, and for a portion of the backfill operations, will require
• dewatering. A pump will be used to dewater the excavation pit area and
discharge into a new settlement ponds constructed near the southwest corner of
permit area. The settlement ponds will allow the sediment to drop out of the water
before it is discharged offsite into the 33 Road Ditch. The side slopes for the pond
shall be constructed at a 3H:1 V, and all overburden removed for the pond
construction shall be stockpiled around the pond perimeter.
(d) The size of areas to be worked at any one time;
Mining at the site will be progressive across the permit area, as discussed in part (a)
above. The area to be worked at one time will be limited by the ability to dewater
the area for mining and reclamation prior to being filled with ground water.
i 0
