He
advised me that while a meter was being checked in an underground water vault located at my
place of business they found that the vault was flooded and that the pressure system tanks were
broken free and floating at the top of the vault.
I contracted Mr. Kirby's services to start pumping water out of the vault immediately. I was quite
concerned that the electrical panels for the pumping systems for the water wells would short out.
Mr. Kirby temporarily repaired the pressure tanks and was able to restore service to one of my
wells but did not want to restore the second until the control panels had dried out.
The repairs that currently have been done are temporary. I can't accomplish final repairs until the
source of this water is determined.
Upon my return on April 3`d I found that the floor in the S.E. corner of my shop had heaved and
forced one door to jam. I assume that this was caused by the water table rising. Since Mr. Kirby
has been pumping water from his well and basement my door is able to function again.
I believe that the ground water being backed up is due to the inappropriate materials used in
backfill of a gravel pit located at 12021 Brighton Road. It is my understanding that this pit is
operated by Asphalt Specialties under permit M-83-176 and named Speer Mining Resource pit.
I worked for Speer Flying Service , the previous owner of this property in the late 70's and recall
that where the pit is now located, in the flood plain, there were underground streams.
