The site is a very small clay mine located approximately 4 miles
SW OF Calhan, Colorado. The total permit area covers 320 acres. Maximum affected area is
61 acres, consisting of four phases. The current disturbance is in Phase I, consisting of
approximately 9.9 acres, properly marked with stakes. Disturbance of the pit did not
appear to change from the last inspection. During the last inspection, operator had
indicated, that they might change the Phased sequencing and start mining in Phase IV area.
But to date the mining is still limited to the existing phase I disturbance. The current
total affected area including product stockpile appear to be less than 5 acres. The phased
affected acreage was properly marked with stakes. The current warranty for a total maximum
affected area is $19, 200.00 which is adequate. However, if the affected area increase
operator will need to submit a TR, and post the additional warranty as calculated at the
time of the TR submittal.
Operator was notified of the pending inspection but was unable to attend. Site was not
active at the time of the inspection. Evidence of the recent snow and rain storm the area
received was noted throughout the pit in the form of puddles of water throughout the
permit and associated area. There was a front end loader parked along the south East side
0
The entire permit area was walked and inspected, like stated above, the area had received
lots of rain the past week. Pit was holding a small amount of water, along the south side,
which should dry up soon. Operator is ware that without the appropriate water supply
substitute plan, the cannot retain water for more than 72 hours.
The entire permit area was walked and inspected. Pit high wall approximates from
approximately 4 feet along the south end to 10 feet along the North end. Pit measured
approximately 1000 feet in length and 180 feet in width, orienting North to South.
Different types of processed clay were noted along the East side of the permit area. It
appears the only activity on site is removal of material from the existing stock pile,
which was evident at the time of the inspection. Top soil piles properly marked along the
road orienting North South were in good repair. No major sign of erosion noted.
Permit sign was properly posted at the gate to the site.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: MR JOE WELTE
OPERATOR: SUMMIT PRESSED BRICK & TILE co.
ADDRESS P.O.BOX 533
CITY/STATE/ZIP: PUFRI CO 81009-0533
cc: IF CE
F BL
F FS,
F HW
F HMWMD (CH)
F
IF SE
F WQCD (CH)
F OTHER
