III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety(Division). This mine permit is bond revoked. The weather
was clear and mild. Ground conditions were generally dry with only isolated areas of mud.
Access on foot was good in all areas.
Hydrologic Balance
Rill and gully erosion continues in areas as previously identified in past inspections. No new
areas have developed, although quantitative estimates are not possible to determine.
Arresting and limiting storm runoff at the heads of the larger gullies would assist in preventing
further head-cutting.
Revegetation
The growing season is in full swing in all areas. Grasses, forts, and shrubs are actively
growing in all areas where severe erosion and sedimentation is not occurring. Cattle were
not evident at the East Pit, West Pit, Chen's Hill, or the Orphan Pit areas. Overall, the site
appeared normal with no new problems apparent.
3
