nro?o?+oree
edriii
6. Shovel
The Hitachi 5500 shovel has the largest acoustic output of all of the equipment operating at the CC&V
Mine. Most of the noise comes from the engine compartment, which is about 18 ft above ground
level. The Hitachi 5500 shovel produces 55 dB(A) at a distance of 1995 ft. and 50 dB(A) at a
distance of 3500 ft. when there is a direct line-of-sight between the shovel and the receptor. At Site
C', the shovel can operate during both the daytime and nighttime without any noise mitigation. During
the daytime the shovel can operated at Sites B', C', D' and H' without any noise mitigation. When
there is a berm of about 30 ft. in height or a bench face, the daytime and nighttime 55 dB(A) and 50
dB(A) are such that the shovel is in compliance at all sites. When the second and subsequent bench
levels are being mined the shovel will be several benches below the mine face and the noise
reduction will be such that the 55 dB(A) and 50 dB(A) distances will be within the confines of the
mining activity area.
7. Work Lights
During mining, work lights may be used. The engine/generator units powering the work lights
produces 71 dB(A) at 100 ft. The 50 dB(A) noise contour or foot print for the work light generator
would extend for a distance of 1100 ft. A small movable noise wall would reduce the engine noise by
more than 5 dB(A) and reduce the 50 dB(A) distance to 630 ft. for those situation where the generator
was not shielded by the berm and only for receptor Sites A' and F.
Rev # EDI Job No. C3616
3925 S.
