Growth medium will be used to cover the
overburden placed as backfill to the
extent it is available. Section 11.2 discusses that about six inches of growth
medium is expected to be available to cover the areas upon reclamation. Other
material containing fines will be used if stockpiled growth medium is not
available. The growth medium will be sampled to determine the need for
amendments. Vegetation will be established according to the revegetation
procedures presented in Section 11.3.
Backfilling is anticipated to occur to approximately the ground surface in the two
mine areas of the MLE: Schist Island portion of the North Cresson Mine Area and
the East Cresson Mine Area. The backfill information presented in this discussion
is based upon information available at the time of submittal of this document.
Actual backfilling may vary according to economic and mining conditions, and
other factors, over the life of the mining operations.
Portions of Main Cresson Mine are expected to be partially backfilled as shown
on Drawings C-5 and F-1. The backfill will be truck dumped in lifts of varying
• heights depending on the location of haul roads in that portion of the mine area.
The backfilled material will be placed at an approximate 214:1 V slope and is not
expected to approach the elevation of the natural ground surface, but encompasses
significantly more of the mine area than the previously approved backfill under
Amendment No. 8. This backfill area will not be regraded or receive soil
placement and revegetation.
No backfill will be placed in the southern portion of Main Cresson Mine area (the
South Cresson portion) or in the Globe Hill portion of the North Cresson Mine
area. The final configuration of these areas will remain as defined by the mining
operation. Growth medium will be redistributed in the unbackfilled bottom
portions of the mine to a depth of approximately six inches or less depending on
accessibility and availability of material.
The Schist Island portion of the North Cresson Mine area will be backfilled to
promote free drainage to the surrounding ground surface and to blend with the
SGOSA. As such, the information provided above related to reclamation of
SGOSA includes the backfilled North Cresson Mine area.
• Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
11-12
