• contingency inflow, reporting to the PSSA. All of the PSSAs will fully contain
operational and contingency flows, therefore no solution is predicted to report to the
External Storage Pond ("ESP"). Accordingly, the ESP will be used periodically to store
make-up water during operation of the combined VLF. If, however, the ESP is needed for
solution storage, cyanide destruction circuit will be used as approved under Amendment
No. 8. The water balance results are presented in Appendix 8, Volumes V and VI of this
document
6.7 Surface Water Diversion System
A surface water diversion system has been designed for the Phase 5 VLF extension area.
The diversion system has been designed for the maximum limits of the construction,
however during the 3 year construction period temporary diversion will be used to
control upgradient storm water flows and direct these flows away from the construction
area. The diversions have been sized to divert upgradient surface water flows around the
facility. The diversions have been designed to carry peak flows from a 100-year, 24-hour
storm event of 3.5 inches. Both operation and post-operation diversion designs are
included in Appendix 8.
• Surface water diverted around the north side of the Phase 5 VLF will be routed to a
sediment pond designed to contain twice the runoff from the 10-year, 24-hour storm
event. The design also includes the ability to pump water from the pond into the Phase IV
PSSA if needed. Surface water diverted on the south side of the VLF will not come into
contact with mine-impacted surfaces and will be directly released onto a natural bench
landform.
•
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
6-12
