• peak ground acceleration of 0.08 g for the pseudo-static analysis. Other input
parameters were derived from field examinations, laboratory tests, use of accepted
numerical assumptions for certain rock types, and the proposed dimensions of the
overburden fill during placement and upon regrading. Factors of safety ("FOS")
for the SGOSA were derived for both static and pseudo-static conditions. The
stability was analyzed for post-reclamation conditions and the results indicate that
the minimum static FOS was equal to or exceeded 1.6 and the minimum pseudo-
static FOS exceeded 1.3. For additional details on the stability analysis for the
SGOSA please refer to the Amendment No. 8 document, Appendix 6, Volume IV.
The SGOSA Extension was analyzed using the same criteria presented above of
the SGOSA. The analysis is presented in Appendix 6, Volume IV and indicate
that the Extension exhibits static FOS greater than 1.5 and pseudo-static FOS of
greater than 1.0. It should be noted that for both the SGOSA and SGOSA
Extension the FOS values analyzed and reported are based on the reclaimed
slopes of 2.5H:1 V.
• 5.7.2 Arequa Gulch Overburden Storage Area ("AGOSA")
The AGOSA will be reconfigured as a portion of the base of the Phase 5 VLF.
Construction of the Phase 5 VLF will therefore remove the AGOSA as a separate
facility and incorporate this facility within the VLF footprint, as discussed in
Section 6.3.2. Reclamation of the AGOSA and the associated financial warranty
have therefore been removed from the discussions in Sections 11 and 12 of this
Project Description and Appendix 11, Volume VII.
5.7.3 East Cresson Overburden Storage Area
General
The ECOSA is a proposed overburden storage area to be constructed in the
northeast portion of the mine area (adjacent to the East Cresson Mine area
backfill) to accept overburden from the WHEX portion of the East Cresson mine
area and the Main Cresson Mine area. The ECOSA will have a footprint of
approximately 175 acres, and will hold approximately 66 million tons of
overburden. The ECOSA is located within the Grassy Valley surface drainage
area and runoff from the ECOSA will flow into Grassy Valley. Ground water
infiltration into the ECOSA will predominantly flow into the diatreme. In order to
conservatively protect the water quality in Grassy Valley and maintain the
• Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
5-17
