• Gold Run Gulch <br />Gold Run Gulch is a small ephemeral watershed flowing southwest into Cripple <br />Creek between Arequa Gulch and Squaw Gulch. There are no surface water flows <br />in the watershed and no monitoring. <br />Squaw Gulch <br />Squaw Gulch is an ephemeral stream flowing southwest into Cripple Creek in <br />response to precipitation events and snowmelt. As would be anticipated, when <br />flow occurs, it increases as it flows downstream. Surface water conditions in <br />Squaw Gulch are monitored at four locations between the storm water sediment <br />pond below the SGOSA and the confluence of the Squaw Gulch and Cripple <br />Creek. The sample station designations are: SG-05, SG-06, SG-07, and SG-10 <br />from upstream to downstream. <br />Squaw Gulch use classifications include recreation (Class 2), agriculture, and <br />Class 2 cold water aquatic habitat. Standards exist for pH, dissolved oxygen, and <br />E. Coli, nitrates, nitrites and cyanide, and selected trace metals including arsenic, <br />boron, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, selenium and zinc. Water in <br />. Squaw Gulch is a calcium sulfate, with pH values less than 7, nitrate values <br />between 0.61 and 5.8 mg/L, and average sulfate concentrations between 285 and <br />690 mg/L. <br />Poverty Gulch <br />Poverty Gulch is an ephemeral tributary to Cripple Creek that has historically <br />exhibited no flow. Portions of the SGOSA would drain into this watershed. <br />Cripple Creek <br />Cripple Creek is a perennial stream; however, the flows vary widely and can <br />become quite low. The flow variance does not appear to be seasonal, but rather is <br />related to precipitation and snowmelt events. CC&V has four monitoring stations <br />on Cripple Creek: one of which has been actively monitored since mid-1993 and <br />the others of which have been monitored since early 1996. The upstream location, <br />site CC-01, is influenced by the Cripple Creek wastewater treatment plant. Site <br />CC-02 is south of the confluence with Squaw Gulch, and site CC-03 is <br />downstream of contributions from Arequa Gulch. The flows in Cripple Creek <br />generally increase in a downgradient direction. Flows at the two upgradient <br />stations appear to vary more widely than flows at the lower stations.
