WT - n *
that the DRMS will protect them and their land. I find it to be a sad and
unfair practice for the DRMS to alter the reclamation standards that
WFC must meet, especially if the decision is made based on limited
knowledge that the DRMS agents have regarding the actual uses of the
agricultural land that is involved. If changes are proposed to the
reclamation standards, a DRMS agent should visit the acreage involved
and speak to the affected landowners, not just peruse a single plot that is
presented by WFC as indicative of all the land involved. Remember that
it is in WFC's interest to represent the land at a lesser quality, but an
overgrazed, swampy plot is not representative of all the land in the area.
The little landowners that are not fully abreast of the reclamation
standards and that cannot afford an arsenal of attorneys to oversee their
every move are depending-on you.--Don't let them down!
If you do grant WFC's request for a change in Success Standards in
Irrigated Pasture from a standard to a reference area and fail the people
that depended on your protection, at least limit the change to future
mining contracts and not retroactive to mining contracts already in
place. Don't fail the involved landowners twice! As for myself, I will forge
ahead with getting precise reclamation language in my contract and not
depend solely on the DRMS.
Sincerely,

Patricia A.
