t
cultipacking, rock picking, fertilizing, and working the ground to get it just right to plant alfalfa
not grasses. Grasses will come, we plant straight alfalfa with a cover crop. We plant the best
alfalfa seed available that is recommended for this area and soil type to get the highest yield
possible. We do not want short cuts taken. Pasture land requires less top soil, not much leveling,
less rock picking. It also allows #5 seed mix to be planted that has a legume either Ladak alfalfa
or birdsfoot trefoil which is just a pasture alfalfa not used for production purposes at all. It
requires less water and only does good the first cutting. It was all of our understandings that this
farm would be put back like it was or better, not worse. The mine should have to honor what we
were told and shortcuts should not be permitted.
Please come and visit with us. This is our place and our future. Lance, Ross, and the rest of
them will be retired and gone, but this ranch will still have to produce and continue on. We
should have a great say so in how it is put back. The mine should not be allowed to change their
promises after an agreement has already been made. Future agreements can be negotiated, but
ones that are already done should be honored. Thank you for your time. We look forward to
visiting with you.
Sincerely,
1,17
Frank and Mao Lou /Morgan
Box 4
Nucla, Co 81424
(970) 864-7473
