Twentymile Coal Company (TCC) submitted First Quarter 2009, Pond Inspection Reports on April 6,
2009. The ponds were inspected March 24 and 27, 2009. Ponds B, D, E, F, G, Area 1 Pit, Wastewater
treatment ponds, and Fish Creek Tipple Pond were discharging during the inspection. Some of the ponds
were still partially snow covered during the inspection.
Maintenance items identified during the first quarter 2009 inspection were: Clear flume area on ponds B
and F, and clear the flume area at site 7 at the Pit 1 discharge to Pond D.
Construction on the 6MN Mine water reservoir has been completed. Please provide as-built reports for the
6MN reservoir. Please include quarterly inspection reports for the 6MN Mine Water Reservoir too.
The First Quarter 2009 Pond Reports change the way water elevation is being reported. Previous reports
provided water level elevations reported above mean sea level (msl). Example, water level reported for
Pond D in the Fourth Quarter 2008 pond report was "<6846.5". TCC reported the water level for Pond D
for First Quarter 2009 as "0.2". Please stay consistent with the method of reporting the water level
information. The Division assumes that TCC meant to add the reported water level in the First Quarter
2009 Pond Reports as water level plus the dewatering hole elevation. So, Pond D first quarter 2009 water
level would be reported as 6823.0 + 0.2, or 6823.2. Please resubmit the reports with the corrected water
level elevations for consistency.
The reports are in compliance with Rule 4.05.6(13). Thank you for prompt submittal of these reports.
