very old reclamation of the area (at the Seneca II Mine) where alfalfa had comprised a much
• larger presence in the seed mixes in the early days and had been considered too abundant.
Herbaceous Production
Observed production values and derivation of the 2008 herbaceous production standard are
compiled / documented in the table below:
Yoast 2008

Vegetation Type Mean Herbaceous Production*
(lb/ac) % of Affected Area
Sagebrush/Snowberrya 752.3 24.0
Mountain Brusha 868.7 48.9
Aspen Woodlanda 2059.2 24.4
Steep Mountain Brusha 1020.1 2.7
Alkali Sage/West Whtgrs. 716 0.0
2001 Reclamation Area 1660 NA
2004 Reclamation Area 1948 NA
2006 Reclamation Area 531 NA
a Yoast extended reference area values from data collected in 2008
b Yoast extended reference area values from data collected in 2006
As corrected for "allowable" annual and biennial production (i.e., no more than 10 percent of
total production allowed, See CDMG 1995, 1.IV.A). Production by noxious weed species, if any,
also subtracted.
Herbaceous production performance standard (weighted by percent of affected area) = 1135.3
lb/ac.
90 percent of performance standard = 0.9 x 1135.3 = 1021.8 lb/ac
As can be seen, the observed herbaceous production in both the 2001 and 2004 reclaimed areas
greatly exceeded the production standard. As with cover, the young 2006 reclamation was short
of the performance standard, largely because much of the production was (expectably)
comprised of annuals that (beyond 10% relative production) were excluded. Annual / biennial
production is expected to decline in the coming few years as has been observed many times over
in older reclamation.
n
U
18
