• Total average vegetation cover, for first hits, was 85.9 percent. Total average vegetation cover, <br />for all hits, was 133.4 percent. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock each had 1.2, 8.9, 3.9, <br />0.1 percent cover, respectively (first hits). Average species density was 29.5 species per 100 <br />sq.m. <br />Production <br />(Table 16) <br />Total average production was 872.6 Ibs per acre. Native perennial forbs contributed the most <br />with an average production of 462.2 Ibs per acre. Native perennial cool season grasses <br />contributed 381.9 Ibs per acre. Three other lifeforms were present with less than 25 Ibs per acre. <br />SAGEBRUSH EXTENDED REFERENCE AREA <br />(Photographs35-38) <br />Cover <br />(Table 17) <br />Native shrubs were most abundant in the Sagebrush Reference Area, contributing 30.1 percent <br />all-hit cover. Within this group, mountain snowberry and big sagebrush were most common, <br />having 13.7 and 13.5 percent all-hit cover, respectively. Native perennial forbs were the second <br />most abundant group (17.5 percent all-hit cover) comprised by numerous species with low <br />percent cover values. Mule's ear (Wyethia amplexicaulis) contributed the highest percent cover <br />value of the native perennial forbs with 4.8 percent all-hit cover. Native perennial cool season <br />grasses was the third most common life form (16.7 percent all-hit cover). Agassiz bluegrass and <br />Montana wheatgrass (Elymus lanceolatus fm. albicans) were the most abundant native perennial <br />cool season grasses (5.7 and 2.1 percent all-hit cover, respectively). <br />Total average vegetation cover, for first hits, was 62.3 percent. Total average vegetation cover, <br />for all hits, was 69.9 percent. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock each had 3.6, 19.5, 14.5, <br />and 0.1 percent cover, respectively (first hits). Average species density was 26.3 species per 100 <br />sq.m. <br />Production <br />(Table 18) <br />Total average production was 781.6 Ibs per acre. Native perennial forbs contributed the most <br />with an average production of 435.4 Ibs per acre. Native perennial cool season grasses <br />contributed 276.6 Ibs per acre and introduced perennial cool season grasses contributed 41.0 Ibs <br />• per acre.
