District, Red Mesa Pit (File No. M-2009-023) (CHS #54500)
Dear Ms. Pickford:
Thank you for your correspondence dated March 24, 2009 (received by our office on March 27, 2009)
concerning the project s` tied move.
A search of the Colorado Cultural Resource Inventory indicated that several cultural resources
inventories have taken place within the proposed permit area. One site has been recorded within the
proposed permit area, but it was determined to be officially ineligible for the National Register of
Historic Places (NRHP) in 1999. Our files contain incomplete information for this area, as most of
Colorado has not yet been inventoried for cultural resources. As a result, there is the possibility that as
yet unidentified cultural resources exist within the proposed permit area.
Should human remains be discovered during mining activities, the requirements under State law CRS
24-80 part 13 apply and must be followed.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Shina
duVall, Section 106 Compliance Manager, at (303) 866-4674 or shina.duvall2chs.state. cO.us.
Sincerely,
Edward C.
