3-17
I~
3.4,9 Evaluation of Revegetation
Success of Revegetation will be determined by comparison of reclaimed areas
to reference areas using the same techniques used in the baseline vegetation
inventory (WRCD 1980b). The area will be subjectively evaluated annually for
success or revegetation beginning the second year after initial permanent
seeding. A statistically adequate sampling of cover and woody plant density
will take place in the fourth year or earlier at the operator's discretion.
Parameters compared will include vegetation canopy cover, herbaceous
production, species diversity and woody plant density. For demonstrations of
revegetation success, the parameters of vegetation cover and woody plant
density will be sampled to statistical adequacy and compared to the appropriate
reference areas (cover) and standards (woody plant density). Herbaceous
production success demonstration will be based on comparison of reclaimed
area production to pre-mine baseline data for the three affected vegetation
types. Diversity comparisons will be made based on relative cover values
obtained from the statistically adequate sampling. Statistical adequacy
demonstration and tests of revegetation success will be made using formulas
specified in Rule 4.15.11. Sampling techniques used for cover, production and
woody plan density will be comparable to baseline sampling techniques and will
be in conformance with Rule 4.15.11. Cover will be sampled using a point
intercept technique, production by clipping quadrats and oven drying the
clippings, and woody plant density by a quadrat method. Amore detailed plan
for bond release vegetation sampling will be submitted and approved prior to
initiation of sampling for Phase II or Phase III bond release.
The following standards will be used to evaluate revegetation.

Herbaceous Production
Density
Diversity
McClave
Greasewood Shrubland sample mean: 766 Ib/acre
Standard (90% of mean): 6901b/acre
Shadscale Shrubland sample mean: 661 Ib/acre
Standard (90% of mean): 595 Ib/acre
Juniper Woodland sample mean: 389 Ib/acre
Standard (90% of mean): 350 Ib/acre
Greasewood Shrubland
Shadscale Shrubland
Juniper Woodland
500 stems per acre
500 stems per acre
1,500 stems per acre
A minimum of three perennial species shall provide
a minimum of 3% relative cover.
