SPECIAL STIPULATIONS <br />J UNION CARBIDE SLUP APPLICATION #C-18213 <br />costs and to insure co a protection stipulations <br />Solid waste will be collected and disposed of in public sanitary <br />land fills or other public disposal a6reas. <br />All survey monuments, witness corners, reference monuments and <br />bearing trees must be protected against destruction, obliteration <br />or damage. Any damaged or obliterated markers must be re-established, <br />at the lessee's expense, in accordance -with accepted BLM survey <br />practices as set forth in the Manual of Surveying Instructions. A <br />complete record of the monumentation and the methods used in <br />re-establishment will be furnished to the Chief, Branch of Cadastral <br />Survey, at the appropriate State Director's-Office. <br />I <br />Water quality shall be maintained at present quality or to <br />standards which meet or exceed State and Federal standards, which- <br />ever is higher. The following are some examples of pollutants <br />subject to State and Federal standards: toxic chemicals, metals <br />and pesticides, untreated human and animal waste, thermal pollution, <br />excessive sedimentation and floating ,debris. In addition to meeting <br />the State and Federal standards, the District Manager may impose <br />further requirements to meet special conditions. <br />The lessee shall monitor water quality at shaft No. 7 and keep such <br />continuous records thereof as will enable him to make accurate and <br />complete reports to the District Manager. <br />The lessee shall be required to take all reasonable steps to rehabili- <br />tate the dump areas.to a useful and productive condition consistent <br />.with pre-existing land uses in the area or to.such,other uses as the <br />District Manager may determine. Rehabilitation may take, but is not <br />limited to, the form of the following: leveling, backfilling and <br />revegetation of spoil banks and pit areas consistent with the latest <br />'practices of sound restoration methods. The reclaimed land will be <br />left in a useful, non-hazardous condition that holds soil erosion <br />and water pollution at a minimum. <br />Those surface areas disturbed by 'operations conducted by the <br />nermi.ttee shall be revegetated when. i_:-.-ir use is no longer required <br />by the operator. Replacement vegetation shall be of species, <br />composition and density having the approval of the District Manager. <br />Vegetation shall be maintained and.replaced to the extent necessary <br />to assure permanent revegetation of the area involved.
