(i ) Of the four coal seams present in the Bookcliffs coal field, Only the Cameo "B"
seam is presently recognized as being economically minable in the Roadside
permit area. From drillhole data, the Carbonera seam is shown to be present
over the portion of this area, but due to its high variability in thickness and
quality it is not known to be economically minable at present. The Cameo "B"
seam is presently being mined at the Roadside South Portals on the East side
of the Colorado River and the Roadside North Portals on the West side. The
Cameo "B" seam varies in thickness from 4 to 8.5 feet in the Roadside South
permit area. However, the minable seam is usually about 6 feet in thickness.
The Cameo "B" seam varies from 5 to 11 feet in the Roadside North area with
an average thickness of 7.2 feet. The coal has been classified as high volatile
bituminous, characterized by low sulfur and moderately high ash content. The
weighted average as-received proximate analysis derived from 63 analyses
made on the unwashed mine-run Cameo coal as shipped over a period of 10
consecutive years from 1951 through 1960 as published by the U. S. Bureau of
• Mines Research Investigations, "Analysis of Tipple and Delivered Samples of
Coal" is as follows:
Cameo Seam
Moisture 7.92%
Volatile Matter 35.56%
Fixed Carbon 46.94%
Ash 9.58%
Sulfur 0.64%
BTU per pound 11,772
The Cameo "C" or Rider seam exhibits little continuity but in selected areas is
of minable thickness. The separation between the Cameo "B" and "C" seams
varies from 4 to 25 feet in the Roadside South permit area and 40 to 100 feet
in the Roadside North area.
6-2 (New 3/1 /96)
•
