• CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS
Two previous formal reports along with other supportive information
have been prepared and submitted to the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board
concerning a reject pile owned by GEX-Colorado at the Roadside Mine. Reject
is a mixture composed primarily of waste rock and minor amounts of coal which
has been separated by gravity from the mine run coal for purposes of increasing
the grade of coal to be shipped.
Armstrong Engineers of Grand Junction prepared initial designs and recom-
mendations for the reject pile during the summer of 1978. It is understood
this report was accepted as a part of "Roadside and Cameo #1 Underground Coal
Mines - Mining and Reclamation Plan by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
• Board.
During the spring of 1979, ARIX, A Professional Corporation, was retained
by GEX-Colorado to do additional work which addressed several desirable modi-
fications to the Armstrong reject pile design. This report was submitted to
GEX during May 1979.
The Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board, after review of these designs
and investigations believed that additional information was required to support
the conclusions reached about the slope stability of the reject pile. Accordingly,
GEX retained ARIX and Lincoln DeVore Testing Laboratory, Inc. to develop,
analyze and present the requested data.
An interim letter report and supporting information was submitted by ARIX
to GEX-Colorado on June 2, 1980.
