constructed. We would recommend about six piezometers be placed
• throughout the pile in such a manner a:. to obtain a representative
water level profile. Generally, the majority of the piezometers
should be placed beneath the longer, downhill slopes. We recommend
placing these piezometers in the fill approximately 10-ft. above the
native ground surface, The location and elevation of piezometers
should be documented as they are placed. The controls of the pie-
zometers should be extended t.o one point or "box" where they can be
monitored and are safe from damage. The purpose of these piezometers
is to provide accurate readings of the piezometric level within the
pile. Our slope stability analysis was based upon assumptions of
the eventual water level, and the: slope stability analysis is quite
sensitive to the location of the piezometric line, In the event that
the actual piezometric level is found to be significantly different
from that assumed in the analysis, the slope configuration and/or
drainage conditions can be modified during construction to reflect
actual subsurface moisture condition=.
It is cc•nsidered important that positive drainage be maintained
arounc the pile so that runoff is carried away. The drainage around
the pile should be planned such that the pile does not impound water
and water is not allowed to stand or pond anywhere on the site. The
top of the pile and the benches or terraces on the slopes of the pile
should have a gradient of between 20 and 5~ to facilitate runoff re-
moval without creating excessive erosion.
We appreciate the opportunity to perform this study for you.
• Should questions arise concerning ttis report, or should further in-
formation be needed, please feel free to contact us at your convenience.
