2.2.2 EP047
EP047 is comprised of approximately 100 acres of moderately sloping revegetation that has a
predominately north-easterly aspect. This unit was seeded in 2007 and therefore, was undergoing its
first growing season in 2008. An average of 4.8 plants per square foot was observed in the unit (see
Compendium 2). Seedling emergents in EP047 consisted of perennial grasses, perennial forbs, annual
grasses, and annual forbs with 1.0, 0.1, 0.3, and 3.3 plants per square foot, respectively.
It is Cedar Creek's observation that greater than one perennial plant per square foot is generally
considered to be "fair" reclamation (1.1 were observed). HO,Never, 3.3 annual forbs per square foot
suggests that there will be a substantial Russian thistle population in 2009 (a condition normally observed
in young reclamation at Colowyo).
Rio Tinto Energy America/Colowyo Mine Page 14 Revegetation Monitoring - 2008
